River Raisin National Battlefield

Please visit the National Park commemorating the Battle of the River Raisin.

The park is located on North Dixie Highway, north of the River Raisin and west of I-75.

The Friends of the River Raisin Battlefield also has a web page that tells the story of the battle that took place on the physical site of the actual battle.

The site offers a rich history of the life and times of settlers to our area.

Old Mill Museum

Dundee, Michigan is rich in history.  That history is on display at the Old Mill Museum.  The museum is located on Toledo Street just east of the River Raisin.

Country Store

The country store is a former school house which stands at the intersection of Raisinville Road and North Custer Road near the Navarre Anderson Trading Post.  It is located north of the Monroe County Fairgrounds.

​

It is open several weeks during the year and contains many artifacts that will have you saying, "My grandmother had one of those."

Navarre Anderson Trading Post

The Navarre Anderson Trading Post is located on North Custer Road at the intersection with Raisinville Road.

​

It is located near the converted school house now known as the Country Store.

Monroe County Museum

The Monroe County Museum is located at the intersection of Second and Monroe Streets in the heart of downtown Monroe.

The museum features many pieces of local memorabilia, including many of General Custer's items.

The museum's hours are: Sundays 12:00 to 5:00 PM and Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Woodland Cemetery

Woodland Cemetery has had at least two other names.  Once it was known as Grove Cemetery and at another time it was known as Woodlawn Cemetery.

​

It is on the list of historic places in the city of Monroe, Michigan and is located at 428 Jerome Street, near East Fourth Street.

​

Many of Monroe's historic figures are entombed in Woodland Cemetery, including members of General George Armstrong Custer's family.

Banner Oak School

Banner Oak School is located at the intersection of Sterns and Crabb Roads in Temperance, Michigan.

​

It dates back to before the Civil War.  It is now the property of Bedford Township's Historical Society.
